I stumbled across an article on KSL this morning titled, "Utahns Trying to Make Quidditch Catch On".
My first reaction was, WTH??
Quidditch. They are seriously trying to make it a sport. Really.
I assume most people who read this blog are familiar with the term, as well as it's relation to all things Harry Potter. If your not, well, now you know. Quidditch happens to be a game, played by wizards with balls and hoops. Oh yeah, and let's not forget the most important feature, it's played in the air on broomsticks. Flying is required to achieve proper Quidditch play. Flying...on a broomstick.
This makes no sense to me. People trying to make Quidditch catch on...Quidditch! Do they not understand that there is really NO way that they will EVER be able to really play this game. Unless someone is actually able to mass produce an actual flying broomstick. As well as a tiny ball that can fly on it's own, and basically 'think' in order to make it's escape. (i.e. The Snitch) I'm thinking we're still a little ways out on that technology, and I have a feeling that the average teenager probably wouldn't have access to this magical devices either. Safety issues you know.
What makes this even more enjoyable, is the video they posted on KSL. Some of the kids actually "ride" on "broomsticks" while they play. It's awesome.
I just don't get it. You'd probably be get closer to achieving Quidditch by just playing rugby.
Ya know, along with green jello, polygamy, and high reproduction rates, making Quidditch a sport is probably another thing that we can add to the "Only In Utah" list. :)
