Two small events made me remember an old memory. One, I heard from my old friend S today. {S, you totally made my day!} Second, my younger sibling said that she was at school, in class, and said, "I hate this class!", right as her professor walked in. Foot In The Mouth.
When I was a Junior in High School, I tried out for basketball. As some of the other girls were scrimaging, a few of us huddled together and decided to tell each other who was going to get "cut". {
Such gossipers we were. Go figure.}A couple girls took their turn, and voiced their opinions. Then someone asked me who I thought wasn't going to make the team. So I said, "I don't think Mary
{names have been changed} is going to make it." For a minute everyone just stood there with their mouths open, and then I believe it was my good friend S who said, "Stefanie, Mary is standing right here." I looked at her. Yep. Mary was indeed standing right there in our little circle. My response..."Oh. My bad." Then I turned right around and walked away. Ironically, Mary did make the team, as did I...and I'm pretty sure Mary hated me for the rest of my High School days. But hey, I was honest, right? I actually quit basketball mid-season that year, because I never liked playing in the first place. Even more ironic, I suppose.

Oh my gosh that is hilarious!! That is totally something I would do. Hopefully that girl has forgiven you and realized that funniness (is that a word??) in the whole situation!!

ReplyDeleteLOL. No Raquel you are not Mary! Yes...freshman basketball...we were so terrible!! I think we played a team that year that had a record that was just as bad as ours, and we lost...Oh man. Haha!
