So I'm Thinking...

About a lot of things.

Last night I was thinking about how stressed I am.

I don't think I have felt stress like that since I have been pregnant. Something about being prego mellowed out my stress factor.

School. Work. Blogging.

Yes, blogging gives me stress. It's like weirdly competitive for me.

Anyway. I was talking with my cousin about some books I suggested to her, when a book club came up in our conversation.

Soooo. I am thinking about starting an E-Book Club. Not that the books will be e-books, although I hear Nook's are all the rage, but the club it's self would be electronic. I'm just debating a couple of things.

(Don't you like how I was just talking about stress, and now I'm talking about creating a book club...Geez. I'm an idiot, I know. But, I like to create things. So it's feeding that need as well.)

Firstly, if anyone would even be interested.

And Secondly, how I should go about setting it up.

I think traditional book clubs are just awkward. Everyone getting together in a room to talk about...a book. Who knows. I think people dread books clubs also because they don't feel like they have time to get together to discuss it, don't like the book selection, time to read a book they seriously hate, or just hate awkward social situations as I do. There is usually one person that dominates the whole conversation as well. Ew.

So, I want to make something that is less socially awkward, and will be FUN!

This is what I was thinking, that's if criteria #1 is met of course. ;)
-I would set up either a new blog (oh heaven forbid), or a facebook page, where anyone and everyone can participate.
-There would be a selection of 2-4 books to read per month. I'm not sure how ambitious people are...so we'll see.
-Members can read one or all of those books during that time, or none at all I suppose if you really hate the selection for a particular month. And at your own pace.
-Every week I'll create a new post for a corresponding book for the month. The comments section will stay open infinitely so people can discuss the book as they finish reading it.

I'm kind of liking the facebook page idea of it all, just because if someone comments on a particular thread that you have commented on, you'll be notified, and can respond. Whereas blogger doesn't really let you do that, unless you select to have follow-up comments sent to your email, which I think is super annoying. Anyway...

That's just my basic idea...I have no idea how it will all work. But yeah. That's what I've got.

So what do you think?

Would this be something anyone would be interested in?

Has anyone participated in book clubs? What are the things that you liked or hated?

  1. I would be interested! I think the Facebook page sounds great. I don't know how you would choose the books. I guess you could ask for suggestions... Or find one of those lists online, 100 books you must read or whatev.

  2. I'm in! I have loved reading lately and feel lost when I'm in between books. I don't have any suggestions just yet but I will start thinking about it...
Good luck with the stress. I am beginning to think that most everyone I know seems to be stressed but I honestly think it's the winter blues. I have been feeling so stressed lately and when I look at what I'm stressed over..it's just the little things that suddenly seem so huge. I guess I am just trying to tell you that your not alone. Hang in there. And keep the blogging going, I love reading and I am probably you're #1 stalker.

  3. I would LOVE to do this, but I would have to wait until the summer. I have a million things going on during the school year, and nothing but time to read during the summer. If you're still doing it then, I would LOVE to join. : )

  4. ahhhh!!! i love reading and this would be the perfect excuse to allow me to read a good book...school normally keeps me from doing that but I would love to participate. I have never done a book club before but like all of your suggestions and would be willing to give it a shot :)
