Mockingjay!!

*Spoiler Alert*

If your currently reading Mockingjay or any of the other Hunger Games books, you probably shouldn't continue reading.

GRR!

I just finished Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins yesterday evening. It took me a lot longer to finish it because, well, I didn't really love it. At all.

Especially the way it ended. It was just kind of...Meh. My thoughts at the end of the book were, "Really? That's it?" Then there was the Epilogue. Sigh. Then there was that whole Coin/Snow thing at the end. That was a pretty little twist, but I was really confused by it at first. It took me a few minutes of thought and re-reading.

I want to know if anyone else has read the third book in the Hunger Games series, and what you thought? Did anyone love it? Or am I justified in feeling this way about the third book?

And I just found this...Does anyone know if this is really for real?? I'm not sure if I'm disappointed..or excited. I really don't like when my books become movies. It usually ruins it for me.Twilight is a good example of that. I despise those movies...Love the books...but despise the movies. Robert Pattinson makes me want to die. Blech. I honestly think that the movie industry has truly run out of original ideas. So when a decent book series comes out, they run with it, do a half-arse job, and make big bucks. Because that's what it's come to. Making money.

Anyway.

Weigh in. Please.

  1. There were some things that I didn't like about this book. I would have liked to see more resolution with Gale, I missed the old Peeta, I wanted there to be more face to face conflict between Katniss and Snow. But, I think that this book was powerful. I think that those ending pages when Katniss sees Prim die really show the effects of war on an individual. Really I think that's what the whole series is about, and it's heavily emphasized in this book more so than the others because Katniss is actually IN the war. Instead of just in the plotting that led to the war, where she's going to have at least a little bit more freedom. It's not the kind of book that I'll read again just for fun, but I still think it was an amazing read. I think Collins is pretty brave to write this book, and I think she did a great job. I've heard people say they don't like Katniss in this book, that her character was weak, but I don't think they're taking into account everything that she's gone through.

So, yeah, I gave it 5/5. But it's not a book that I'll be reading again a hundred times like I do with the rest of my favorites. It'll sit on my shelf next to Anna Karenina and The Road. Two of my favorites, but two heavy books.:)

  2. I agree. I really HATED Mockingjay and found it hard to get through. I only finished it to find out what happened and I was very DISAPOINTED! Maybe the movie people will make it better though. They always add their own mix in so maybe they'll change the ending a bit cause the book version really sucked. I do have to admit however that I like the Twilight movies so I probably will like the movies better..I'm weird like that :) But all in all I agree it was a disapointing end to what started out as great.

  3. Crystal, I'm with you on Gale and Peeta. I think that's what bothers me the most about this book. I wanted to be more reassured. I can see where readers have found Katniss to be "weak", because throughout the book it's basically fight after fight that leaves her either injured physically or emotionally. However, I thought that her character was stronger in this book. She was fighting for much more than herself this time.

Janice-I really had a hard time there at the end. I also just finished it to finish it. LOL. I can't believe you like the Twilight movies! Kidding...kidding...:)

  4. I have to agree along with Crystal a little bit. I wasn't overly ecstatic about it, but you never really are in the last book of a series (or whatever you want to call it). I always seem to love the very first book, hate the second, and then just shrug on the last books.
I missed the old Peeta too. And I still think that one of the boys should have died...it didn't make it feel real to me that Gale would just give up and leave Katniss alone for the rest of her life. I couldn't picture that after all they had been through.

I was disappointed with the ending though because even though Katniss said she loves Peeta, I didn't feel it. It's like she just chose the better between the two, like Gale predicted when they were at the Capital hiding. I was devastated though when I read that Prim died. That was heart breaking, after all that Katniss did for her little sister, protecting her and all.

I dunno, I feel like i'm just rambling here, and I probably am.
    So I give it a 4/5.
